Helping each child and family find their BRAVE voice
Psychotherapy for Parents of Autistic Children
Support, Strength, and Resilience
Parenting a child with autism is a journey filled with love, dedication, and unique challenges. The emotional toll—overwhelm, anxiety about the future, burnout, and deep exhaustion, can feel isolating. At BRAVE, we recognize that caring for a child with autism often means navigating societal expectations, daily stressors, and complex emotions, all while striving to provide the best possible support for your child. Psychotherapy offers parents a safe, supportive space to process these emotions, break free from cycles of stress, and develop coping strategies. Rather than just managing day-to-day struggles, parents gain the tools to foster greater well-being, deeper connections, and a renewed sense of empowerment in their parenting journey.
Integrated Care for Families at BRAVE
At BRAVE, we believe that a child’s progress is deeply connected to the emotional well-being of their parents. When parents feel regulated and supported, they are better able to co-regulate, communicate, and build meaningful connections with their child. Narmilee Dhayanandhan, SLP, certified DIRFloortime® provider, and Shanker Self-Reg® facilitator, coaches families to support them with helping their child to regulate and communicate. However, when parents experience emotional overwhelm, unresolved stress, or difficulty implementing self-regulation strategies, she partners with Karyn Robinson-Renaud, a Registered Social Worker, to provide specialized psychotherapy support. Karyn, a parent of an Autistic child herself, brings deep personal understanding along with expertise in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Through family counseling, parents can:
Process emotional triggers and past experiences that may be influencing their parenting approach.
Reframe limiting beliefs about disability to create a more empowering mindset.
Develop practical self-regulation strategies to manage stress and prevent burnout.
Strengthen their emotional resilience to foster a healthier, more connected relationship with their child.
Empowering Families, One Step at a Time
By prioritizing both the child’s development and the parent’s emotional well-being, BRAVE takes a holistic, relationship-driven approach to family care. With compassionate support and evidence-based interventions, we help parents move from overwhelm to confidence, from burnout to resilience, and from stress to connection—so they can support their child with clarity, strength, and love.
